What Worked
Hey! Ultimo Dragon wins the belt against Eddy Guerrerro in a match I'm assuming will be nine times longer on PPV for the rematch. Hell, maybe Ultimo is gonna drop that punk, Ohtani, in the Tokyo Dome and get the double belt action (since the J-Crown and the Foxy Belt Ladies are history). Eddy hits a SWANK spinning DDT and that about all the time they give it before the flash win. I could get WAY into this little feud... if they never make them wrestle a match in that short a time... ever.

Hey! Booker T FINALLY gets a singles title in a really good match against Disco Inferno. Fuck it. I'm on the DI bandwagon after this match. He took hellish bumps and and took the World's Greatest Harlem Hang-over like a KING. Booker T looked GREAT in this match and this is what that belt needed to get it back into the realm of "Actual Belts That Mean Something". They gave this enough time to develop the story of the match, with DI getting all heelish and dickish and Booker T being quite the viable face. I await Booker T vs Benoit/Regal/Finlay/Buff/Mortis/Chavo Jr and all the others that can make it a good match. Hell, give DI a rematch if he can do as well as he did in this one. This was probably the smartest move they have done all year. This could be harbinger of the division to complement the Cruiserweight division on the suddenly slumping WCW PPV's (quality-wise) as the other workrate belts (cruiserweight for the smaller highflyers headed up by Dean and Eddy and filled out by suffieciently pushed luchadores, and the TV title for the Heavies that can work and shore up the mid-card.) Now WCW must fight their irrestible urge to ruin it all by putting it on Lodi next week or something.

The Jericho vs Hennig match was pretty okay, but the big freakout at the end by Jericho was choice. It was like when he would lose matches in WAR and throw a big fit. Get him and Guerrerro in cahoots and let the fun begin!

Mortis vs DDP was really cool. I forget that DDP in with a real worker is a great thing (as opposed to the back-in-decline Hennig from Starcade). Mortis hits the REVERSE Falcon Arrow and I thought I was gonna lose it. I'm still a little cheesed that our boy Chris Canyon swiped Reckless Youth's Awesome Finisher the other week, but hell, Canyon is just SOO freakin Good and he creates moves that are so awesome, I don't see his need to steal from King of the Mid-Atlantic Indies (well... King other than Lance Diamond).

Ric Flair quotes Dave Meltzer. What the HELL is going on?!?!? I'm still not subscribing.:)

Sting vs Hogan was better than at Starrcade but why didn't they show the ending? Hogan is so NOT the worst wrestler on earth right now, and this match was pretty cool in a 70's kinda way. The ending would have been nice. And a big bucket of blood.

No Vincent. No Steiners. No Ray Traylor. YEAAAAAA!

What Didn't Work
Scott Hall enters the ring as I join the entire Nation in our weekly national ritual of turning our TV sets to RAW for a couple of minutes. U-S-A! U-S-A! HEY! Canada gets it live now! CAN-A-DA! CAN-A-DA! Smell the ratings drop.

Glacier vs GOLDBERG. Hmmm. Last year's overpushed mediocre wrestler gets squashed by this year's overpushed mediocre wrestler. I would revel in the irony and the cruelty of wrestling fate, but I was too busy watching the stinky wrestling match. HEY! Goldberg squashed Glacier as fast as Glacier squashed Lizmark Jr during the shitty Glacier original push. AWRIGHT! Glacier, welcome to WCW Pro, m'man.

You have GOT to be shitting me, Pyle. GEORGE THE ANIMAL STEELE!?!? What the F*CK!?! I can't belie.....Oops! Wrong column!:)

Buff vs Luger. Hmmm. The WCW axiom is "If something doesn't work the first time, maybe if we do it Five times it won't stink!" Sorry, fellas. Luger isn't good in the ring and even the magnificent Buff can't carry him. Set Buff free and let him wrestle again. They cannot get me to hate Buff no matter how many shitty stiffs they stick him in with.

Benoit DOESN'T beat the holy piss out of Hammer? Mongo makes the save? Oh PUH-LEEEZ. Okay fellas, let's wrap this angle up and get on with the Buff/Booker T/Benoit/Finlay feud for the belt already. This Raven angle is becoming Sullivanesque all of the sudden.

Phil told me all about the luchadores in DC last night at Starrcade (the Juventud/Psicosis "dressed to go to GoodGuys" Black Leather Dusters). Howcome NONE of them show up on Nitro? This was a better than usual Nitro, but if can't whine about the lack of luchadores, what's the use of being a wrestling fan?

Boy. This was an above average Nitro.:0

THERE YOU HAVE IT.

DEAN!
