What Worked
It's ironic, strange, and twisted that someone like me whose favourite promotion is All Japan, a promotion that has virtually no angles, at least not the kind we're used to in North America, and features some of the stiffest, most workrate intensive matches in the business would get such a big, and I mean BIG, kick out of seeing Kurrgan in a tux doing a hammy lounge act. THIS is the character he's been waiting for! Hey! Who cares if he stinks up the joint once he gets in the ring, this is Raw we're watching, the most sublimely entertaining show on television right now. I thought I liked the Human Oddities before, now I'm convinced that I should have my tape collection taken away because I just love this stable of Sable's. Oh yeah, Marc Mero vs. Golga was terrible beyond belief but this was still my favourite segment of the whole show, which for a taped Raw was really good.

Scorpio and Kama had a decent enought Brawl for All match so I liked it. Too bad 2 Cold didn't win but I can't blame the bookers this time.

McMahon, Austin and the Undertaker got together in the ring for their weekly round table. It was good but I've run out of ways to basically say the same thing about them every week.

X-Pac vs. HHH was a damn good match, the best one of the night and the best Raw match of August SO FAR! The screwy finish was the only negative. And it at least sets up a good angle. I think it's too soon to show dissention in Degeneration-X but what the hell do I know?! X-Pac is the best light heavyweight at working with big guys. He can sell, and his timing is almost very close to dead on. His offence isn't as flashy as the top cruiserweights in WCW or even the Lightning Kid but his kicking is awesome and his moves are big time. Helmsley looked as good in this match as he does when he's at his best. It made me happy I watched Raw.

I dunno, if it were any other wrestlers involved in the penis mutilation angle with Val Venis I'd probably put it down below in the didnae work category but I like Kaentai DX so I'm gonna let my bias show! Well, the one truly good thing is that K-DX is back to 4/5ths of their original roster (the 5th was Shiryu, aka WCW's Kaz Hayashi under a kick ass mask). No, there was one more truly good thing, Dick Togo's fierce Iron Maiden t-shirt.

What Didn't Work
Hawk did a promo apologizing for his behaviour last week. He should have cut another one after his match with Jeff Jarrett because I found it ten times more offensive.

Dan Severn sells like he's in slow motion and he totally over acts. Anyway, he gave D'Lo a lot of offence which is nice. This didn't go long enough before the screwy finish for me to get into it much. D'Lo's moves looked good and I still think he has the best workrate in the Nation.

Hey, Tiger Ali Singh got Ted DiBiase's old job! This is another case where I'd rather see a guy do a gimmick than wrestle an actual match.

The Rock & Owen Hart vs. Steve Austin & Undertaker was ok. I liked it best when Owen was in against Austin. But it really dragged and in the end I can't call the whole thing good. The Undertaker is only watchable when he wrestles someone who can carry him and make him look good like Shawn Michaels or Mankind. Rocky Maivia may have the personality part down but his wrestling is still pedestrian, albeit very competently done. Now that's backhanded.
