Dont Eat This Book

This is a solid companion piece to Morgan Spurlock's excellent documentary Super Size Me. It articulates a lot of the facts that may fly by in the movie, and also adds newer info since the movie was shot and released. And entertaining and informative read.

Great American Hypocrites:
Toppling the Big Myths of Republican Politics
by Glenn Greenwald

This isn't 100% fresh or original writing and thinking. The topic are often ones that Glenn has written about in the past in his blogs. Some of the material or themes are familar if you've been reading back to Al Franken's 1998 classic Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot and his later books.

What this does to is pull a lot of the thread together into one, clear look at some of the core hypocricy of the Right.

As a writer, Greenwald if very similar to Frank's writing style of pointing out the shamefullness and shamelessness of his targets. In book form, it can get repetitive to see Glenn role out the "hedonist" or "serious" spot for the fifth time in a chapter. He has his reasons for doing it - they happen to be words tossed around by the Right. In column form, in shorter pieces it works. In book for, it's comes across as somewhere between over-the-top and overkill.

Setting that aside, it does lay out how several of the core Conservative Republican planks are a boondoggle when it comes to the people leading the charge on the issues actually living up it.

It also does a good job of putting the wood to the Media that props them up, either as similar hypocritical House Organs like the Weekly Standard, FOX News and the New Republic, or enablers like the Village.
