ROH losing TV

Quote:
The contract between Ring of Honor and HDNet, that expires in April, will not be renewed according to ROH.

The final television taping is set for 1/21 and 1/22 in Philadelphia with shows that will air through 4/4, which would be the final episode of the show.

There is talk of ROH getting a live special on HDNet this year.

ROH release on loss of TV

Quote:
Ring of Honor completed its 2 year TV contract with HDNet. During this time "ROH on HDNet" fans witnessed many great matches, the introduction of the ROH Television Title, and the crowning of new tag champions, among other historical moments. HDNet will air new episodes of ROH until 4/4/11. Please continue to support ROH and watch these new shows on HDNet.

Negotiations are underway for HDNet to broadcast a live special in 2011, and we will bring you more information on that as it becomes available. Ring of Honor Wrestling would like to thank HDNet for the last two years, especially those behind the scenes that made it possible every single TV taping.

Allegedly ROH is looking for a TV deal elsewhere, and no doubt telling anyone who will listen that they've got some leads.

John

ROH needs to decide whether it wants to be the biggest fish in a small pond or smallest fish in a big pond.

How successful has the TV been for them, I wonder? I didn't enjoy the show that much and so wasn't moved to buy their dvd's. In fact, the last roh disc I bought was in April 09.

I assume the point of the show was to drum up gates and video sales, since ad revenues weren't an option.

Just to summarize the last few months of ROH:

Lost their HDNet TV show.
Held some PPVs.
Did some house shows.
Found a new TV home by being acquired by Sinclair Broadcasting Group.
Held some more PPVs.
Did a few more house shows.
Oh, and Davey Richards became ROH Champion.

On Sept. 24th, 2011, the new Ring of Honor TV programming produced by SBG (brand new look, hopefully same if not better wrestling) arrives in the following markets:

Baltimore and Richmond will both get the show initially. Washington DC will NOT, dammit. Well, I suppose Fox5 is too darn important to waste its precious airtime on wrestling that doesn't involve Congressmen -- but c'mon, DC50, you're a freakin' CW station. At least you could replace one of those 4 AM Star Trek: The Next Generation reruns...

To defend DC50 for a moment -- Sinclair is not yet making ROH available to stations it doesn't own. Every station on that list is owned by Sinclair or one of its semi-legal shell companies.

They've said they want to establish ROH first, then deal with the mess that is broadcast syndication.

The good news is that the TV show will be available on-demand at the ROH website. The bad news is that they haven't said what the price will be...
