After losing 4 in a row, the Clips have righted the ship by winning 3 of their last 4, with an impressive win at Toronto and a comeback win today at home against the Bucks. They next play in Phoenix, a game they should win. They have a good chance to finish at 45 wins, which would put them right on the cusp of the playoffs.

Clips lost to Portland seemed to hurt their chances.

I think I read today that our boy Blake was hurt in Detroit. Against the Lakers he seemed as goofy as ever. I see him involved in another trade with in a year.---Yohe

Van Gundy has a year left on his Coach+GM contract. They're 4.5 games out of 8th place with 6 games left to play. If they don't make the playoffs, he's fired.

Blake's contract would take a desperate mark to take it off the Piston's hands, just as it took to move from the Clippers. There aren't likely to be a lot of marks on that level in the off season. There's still $141M left on the contract for the next four seasons.

The Pistons are a mess. $52M over the next two years for Drummond. $35M for Jackson. $19M for Leuer (who?!?!?!). $14M for Galloway (who?!?!?). They have $10.6M of dead cap over the next two seasons for Josh Smith form their stretching his horrid contract..

Their #1 goes to the Clippers as long as it doesn't move up into a Top 4 spot.

Add in Blake's contract.

They're kind of stuck with the team they have next year, unless they move Dummond. He's the only thing they have of decent value, though the contract, his inconsistency and how the NBA has changed where a big man like his is of lesser value... who knows what they can get for him.

They really need to semi-tank over the next few years. They can't total tank because they would lose their pick if it gets Top 5:

Protection on 1st Round Pick to Clippers
2018 - 1-4 protected
2019 - 1-4
2020 - 1-4
2021 unprotected

So you don't really want to finish so bad you're a near lock to get a Top 4 pick.

A mess.

Detroit was eliminated from the playoffs last night. Before the Clips.

They actually hold the tiebreaker over Denver who is also fighting for their playoff life. And they meet Saturday.

Denver blows out the Clips to end their playoff hopes. They're eliminated.

Still they did better off than Detroit this year. But their long-term future seems to be much dimmer than their crosstown rivals, the Lakers.

Here's an article on Doc Rivers who's facing a huge crossroads and lots of questionmarks this offseason:

Bet Rivers would like the NY job. He'll leave for a semi-contender. His time is over in LA.---Yohe

NY isn't a semi-contender, and their one start has injury issues and doesn't want to be there.

Giannis is in Milwaukee and the Bucks need a coach. Their ownership is messy, but that didn't stop Doc from coming to an even worse ownership problem with the Clippers.

That would be my guess as Doc's first choice.

Mark Jackson will probably get the Knicks job.

Yeah from what I read today, Porzingis seems to be taking a wait and see approach before committing long-term. At least he showed up to talk though.

One thing the Clippers have now, unlike before, is a fan-friendly owner in Steve Ballmer. Someone who will go balls out to try to get what he wants, in a positive manner. Now that probably won't get a marquee name in the FA market this year, but at least you got someone who cares, unlike his deplorable predesscor.

SVG got canned today. A few weeks after the regular season ended. So they luck out on the bigger names, like Fizdale etc.

So he goes and Doc Rivers most likely stays. The start of the draftplanning/offseason is a month away and if Doc wants to exit, well they'll be on the same boat as Detroit. Fizdale might have been a great fit for Ballmer and co.

Clips with two lottery picks next year. The Logo was a good luck charm for them with his appearance tonight.

With the rumors about Kawhi perhaps being interested in being a Clipper, it seems very farfetched at first. But remember Ballmer has very deep pockets, and if Kawhi wants to play primarily for the money, and not to start a dynasty with others, maybe that'll be the landing spot. As scant as his chances are. And it is scant with the salaries for next year and beyond.

I do wonder if Ballmer will be motivated by the fact that the Lakers are going to be one of the favorites next year, depending on who they acquire of course. That would put the Clips back to where they were pre CP and Blake. 2nd fiddle to the Lakers.

An interesting trade today as Doc Rivers' son Austin goes to Washington for Gortat:

http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/23918159/la-clippers-send-austin-rivers-washington-wizards-center-marcin-gortat

Gortat had problems with John Wall so it wasn't a shock to see him moved.

Guess Doc had no problem to ship away his son if he wanted to improve the team.

This also means Deandre is all but gone with this trade.
