Gortat's playing time and quality were in decline massively last year, and he's 34 this year. This isn't exactly a long term plan for the C spot. More like "let's get rid of Austin" with the salaries close.

A smart front office would have told pop to get rid of Jr. Maybe they like their two rookie guards? Something seems to be going on?--Yohe

Deandre opting out and is expected to sign with the Mavericks. Unless history repeats itself. Which I don't see happening this time.

Mavericks are a couple of cogs away from a playoff team, IMO.

Well it was a nice mini run while it lasted. Now they're back to being #2 in LA for the next 4 years at least.

The Clippers get rid of Bruce Bowen to chase Kawhi Leonard

Silly Clippers.

Still don't know what happened to Mike Smith. I wanted to hate Bowen, but he was Ok. The best thing about the Clip are the announcers with Ralph in the lead. They seem pretty sure about getting Leonard, firering an announcer to not offend him.---Yohe

Bowen responds:

So while the Lakers soar with acquiring Bron etc, the Clips have to deal with more unfortunate negative publicity.

I would assume if they actually get Kawhi, and I think that's going to be slim at best. I can't see him gelling with Doc. Doc will probably resign.

Had a feeling this was coming. He's not young. He will be working with another new partner this season after Bowen was run. He had worked with Smith for 15 years and Walton for a decade before that... it's got to suck to be running through partners when you're 80 after seeming to really like Smith and also have some fun weird charisma with Walton where they also seemed to get along well despite all the playful poking. Add in that the Clippers are clearly in decline, which has got to be hard for him to watch/call after just going through the greatest run of play in Clippers history which also happened to be a "fun" team rather than a boring grind it out Tibs/Czar type of defensive team.

Just seemed like everything was adding up that at some point this season he would look around and think, "I got better things to do at 80 than deal with this shit..."

That he did it before the season started it great. He gets a nice, long send off.

Without Ralph there is no reason to watch them. They'll put some company guy in there.

Ralph made weird-O Walton a fun guy. Walton is trying to get Ralph in the HOF. Maybe Lawler with be the first clip to get his number retired. Statue will never happen because the Clips are moving out of the building. Sad when the announcer is the biggest star in a team's history. Well McAdoo, butů.

I think Smith leaving had something to do with it.

They just hired someone who might be one of the more interesting and intriguing NBA hires in a long time:

http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/24717311/sports-illustrated-writer-lee-jenkins-join-la-clippers-front-office

THat's an ahead of the curve type move. Only in the NBA can groundbreaking moves like this occur. I do hope that he doesn't get interfered in whatever he has planned.
