Last 'Harry Potter' book becomes 2 films

*This* is the story they split into two movies?

A book that is clearly padded in Act I to match the one-year timeline?

A book that is shorter than Order of the Phoenix, which clocked in
at 2:19 (15 minutes shorter than its predecessor)?

A book that spends several chapters on subplots that were cut out
of the first five films and don't need to be adapted?

Where in the blue hell are they going to put the film break? I guess
The Silver Doe is the midpoint by page count (363-387 of 759) and
provides a decent climax, but I can't imagine movie 7a being any
good.

Ye Gods.

I have very little interest in the Potter books & don't think much of the movies but from what I remember (or told) the last film was cut short to have an extra showing every day. They thought the first bunch of films were too long so they cut out stuff from the book to make a few extra bucks. That bothers me. I like long films. My bladder is fine. They have a big money maker & once its over...its over. If it was me, I'd film every line of the book in detail & drag it out but do it well. The idea of making two films out of the last book seems good to me.

If Potter was a love of mine (it isn't)...I'd be happy their trying to make money by showing the complete story instead of cutting.--Yohe

I agree with Yohe. Let the movies be longer... movies aren't supposed to be "short attention span" stuff like most of what airs on TV.

If shorter movies are being made because of the kids, that shouldn't be the concern. They need to remember that, as each Harry Potter book came out, the tone became more mature (for lack of a better term to summarize everything) because the readers of the first book who were 8 and 9 years old when the first book came out were in college, I believe, when the last book came out.

So an older audience should be able to appreciate a longer movie.

Neither of you read Book 7, didya? :)

If they wanted to push the length of the film out to 3 hours, I'd be all for
it. Heck, I saw Gettysburg in the theater, complete with intermission.
But two films means 4 hours plus (unless they have the gall to put out
two 90 minute movies) and there just isn't enough story there to justify it.

Much of what they cut out of 4 and 5 were subplots and atmosphere.
That's the sort of thing that doesn't always translate well to film (and
many people think Book 5 needed to have 100+ pages edited out of the
*book*, screw the film). What would get cut out of the 7th film is
*pacing*. There's about 150 pages in what is going to be film 7A where
*nothing* *happens*. Not 'nothing related to the main plot' or 'nothing
but relationship stuff'. NOTHING. This is not even like the Hobbit,
where that first film is going to be a long series of entertaining anecdotes
without a resolution. I could deal with that.

Film 7B is going to be OK. I like that it means they'll be able to keep
a lot of the Resistance stuff in. But that's almost all in 7B. 7A is going
to suck.
