So with nothing to do I went to the PWG card in Reseda tonight.

They drew about the same number of fans. Their fans are great even before the show standing in line. Lots of fun.

Excalibur, the skinny owner with the mask, came out and told every one that Kevin Steen's wife was sick and Brian Cage-Taylor got hurt yesterday so he was changing the name of the show from "WINNING" to "CARD SUBJECT TO CHANGE III". Then Joey Ryan came out & said he was going to make Claudio submit in their match without breaking any rules or screwing around, so he was giving some "story" to their match. A lot of the crowd hate him & you could feel it.

1) Peter Avalon beat Johnny Yuma Good match up with both being about 140 pounds. Same old high spot shit. For PWG, I'd give it **

2) Candice LeRae beat Portia Perez--Perez was from Canada--At least that's what they said. Look like she was 15 years old & very green but worked hard. Candice didn't have much to work with. Far a American woman, she might be hi on my list of chicks I've seen wrestle live. Really that's how bad the women were at the Olympic. The were trained in those days by Mildred Burke & if they lasted 3 minutes it seemed forever. I would give this match *1/2. It interested me & they tried hard, so OK.

3) Roderick Strong beat Willie Mack--I was a little pissed because the match I wanted to see was Strong vs Low Ki. Mack looks like shit. Bad body but moves well & it seems to me like he sells real good. Strong looks small and he was a little disappointing. **1/2 but I enjoyed it.

4) Low Ki beat Akira Tozawa--I wanted Strong but Tozawa was probably a better match. They held back on all the kicking shit and the first part was some good wrestling that turned into some cool high spots. Low Ki impressed me. Looked bigger & cut & his mat wrestling was good. I like how he gets himself over before helping the other guy, so when he does sell it gets over. It did end up with all chops & kicks. Finish was cool. I say ***1/4 but the crowd seemed to go nuts over it.

5) Johnny Goodtime beat Ryan Taylor--I think it was Ryan. The Taylor with the good body. I don't like GoodTime & I didn't want to watch this match. Same old shit. *1/2 Goodtime may have hurt his arm. I don't like his gimmick.

6) Claudio Castagnoli beat Joey Ryan with PWG WC on line--The storyline was they weren't going to cheat. Claudio killed Ryan wrestling using a lot of European moves. Did a very cool spinning toe hold...that he turned into a indian death lock...and then he rolled over..holding Ryan's arms...turning it into a neat near fall. For ten or 15 minutes, Claudio out classed & out wrestled Ryan. Fans loved it. Ryan sucks but he sold everything and works the storyline well. Then Ryan started biting and cheating. At one point there was a ref bump and Joey hit Claudio with the championship belt. I thought Joey was going to win before tonight & figured it would have to be some type of a screw to beat the big national star. So I & everyone popped when Claudio kicked out. It would have been terrible if that had been the finish. Later Ryan used a chair spot on Claudio's bad arm & it looked like he was going to submit to a hammerlock....but muscled out of it & lifted Ryan over his head & walked the ropes and then dropped Joey down on the turn buckle. Then he threw Joey acrossed the ring and either pinned him or made him submit in the corner where I couldn't see well. I was impressed with the match and Castagnoli. To me, he looked great. The only really major talent on the card. Fuck. Can't believe the wif hasn't grabbed him. Looks to me like he's got it all. *** 2/3 The crowd seemed releaved that Ryan didn't win, I sure was. Maybe it will help him & PWG in the long run.

7) Matt & Nick Jackson beat El Generico & Ricochet for PWG TC--I don't like The Young Bucks. Beat the love Shawn Michaels and the look too young & small for me. But this was a good match filled with all their spots. Generico did some spots I hadn't seen. Ricochet did all his stuff. The Jacksons won by hitting Ricochet with 3 superkicks and two shooting star presses for the pin. The crowd seemed to love it. I thought *** 1/4. A lot of near falls. Then I left. About 11:40.

Had a great time. I think these cards are great, but hate the drive.

I'm probably going to a card at the CAC dinner in Vegas. I know it will suck after watching PWG.

They told me that Reseda is the home of porno movies...and that where James lives. WOW.---Steve Yohe

Funny you should call Portia Perez green. She's been working steadily since 2006, at least. Don't know if she's still running the underage gimmick, but for a long time that was the joke. I have seen her wrestle quite well, so maybe she was having an off night.

I went to three PWG shows in 2008, when I still lived in Pasadena. It was a helluva lot of fun. Joey Ryan is a terrific heel, when it comes to crowd heat and entertainment. Man, I wish I still lived there and could attend their shows.

Maybe it was just me. She was in shape but very small, but cut for a girl. As a woman's match it was watchable. When you hit age 63, you can be wrong. In fact you can count on it. The world looks different thru my eyes. My star ratings are known for being lower than everyone elses too. Don't like to judge matches anymore. You either enjoy the match or you don't at my age. I like PWG and will go when I can, but I have no plans to watch a lot of ROH or TNA on TV. Still like NOAH and as of 2008 NJW. But I plan on being in the dark on a lot of things in the future. I don't want to be a wrestling expert. I don't want to know everything. I like being the dumb ass in the room. If I need info, I'll ask John or James. Fuck if it's important I'll call Meltzer or Tenay.---Steve Yohe

There was no judgment intended in my comments -- quote the opposite, actually. I used to watch a lot of chick rasslin, but I haven't in the last 18 months or so. I was under the feeling that Portia was steadily improving, and as I said I have seen her in some matches I quite enjoyed (she had one in France vs Serena Deeb that was really solid -- for a women's match). But it doesn't mean she hasn't gotten stale or needed to be carried by a stronger opponent than LaRae or some other reason why she might look bad.

I agree with you about ROH TV -- I never could watch it. Like with TNA since Hogan arrived, I have given the shows a try every few months but never make it through a whole episode. Even PWG on disc underwhelms me often. But PWG shows live are a heckuva lot of fun.

Both of us agreed that James would have loved these show. We really missed him too. I think I got on John's nerves after two days. Had no one to laugh at my great jokes.

Just think of the World Title line: Hackenschmidt...Gotch...Stecher...Caddock...Lewis and....Claudio Castagnoli !!!
