HBO: Treme

Anyone catch the first episode? I forgot to set the DVR.

David Simon and the late David Mills are behind it, i.e. of Wire/Homicide fame.

Loaded cast, with some folks from The Wire (Lester! Bunk!) and Deadwood (Joanie!). The exceptional Melissa Leo with John Goodman as her husband. Looks like it should be good.

Finally say episode 2. Typical Simon slow build to the series, but this was a strong episode even in the build stage. The Albert character especially took a major step forward. Whereas the first episode left you with the feeling of "I need to give this some time", this one left me wishing I had episode 3 ready on the DVR to play now.

Third episode is more of the same - great. I'm conflicted in knowing Season 1 is only 8 episodes. 8 weeks is a short run even for an HBO season, but being renewed for Season 2 and knowing how Simon and Co. tightly plot everything, I know I won't be disappointed.

So far, the first three episodes have been Simon/Overmeyer productions, with Mills helping with this story. Will Pelecanos write episode 7 (second to last) like he did in each season of The Wire?

I'm always a bit busy on Sunday to watch it, so end up saving it for a bit later in the week. I'm looking forward to Episode 3. :)

This show rocks. That's about all I have to say. My sis lives in New Orleans and says it's as New Orleans as New Orleans can get. I really hope they release a soundtrack.

The show is great. I keep worrying that people are going to expect The Wire, and this is a very different show. I'm glad to see that not only is it a good show in its own right, but that folks are liking it.

I need to watch Episode 3 tonight. Too distracted last night. But Tim's comments have me geeked up to see it.

Finally got to see Episode 3. Totally agree with Tim: fantastic, right to the finish. Planned on going to bed, but Episode 4 just got recorded and is sitting in the que. :)

Steve Earle, Prezbo, more Slim Charles, Hamsterdam reference, what more can you ask for?

Pelecanos penned this episode and it showed, with his brief scenes that appear to show almost nothing at first glance, but end up meaning a whole lof later into the episode (or the season). All the small details, including the UPS delivery of Bunk's lower bridge because the USPS was still in shambles and UPS was coming through big is so awesome. Like Lester said in Season One of The Wire, "All the pieces matter."

The Mardi Gras episode (which aired last night) is amazing. They did such an excellent job in showing everything about the event that television ALMOST captured the spirit of the real thing. And from the preview, the final two episodes look like they will close the season on a high note, although that is to be expected.

Season 1 is in the books.

Good finale, with the majority of stories being wrapped up but a couple of unresolved issues for next season.

Highly recommend reading:

Can't say enough good about this show (and won't say anything until John finishes the season), it so much the anti-Wire, and I love it. Best music of any TV show, luckily soundtrack is in the works as well as a Season 2.
