If the Olympics happen, it will be players who aren't in the playoffs who are allowed to play.
That said, the Olympics are likely to be postponed this year. Just don't think it's going to happen this year. |

Apparently a couple of the Lakers tested positive for the virus. They add to the growing list of NBA personnel that have it, like Kevin Durant, and Marcus Smart of the Celtics.
I would be really surprised if we don't see games till much later this year. |

There is not going to be any games this year. Season over. The governor thinks half the people in the state will have the virus with in 8 weeks. It's only going to get worse. --Yohe |

The Chinese basketball league was shut down on February 1. Players are being called back to restart the league in early April.
I do not believe we will be stopped that short. But depending on how you define "this year":
* there's a 0.00% chance there will be no NBA games through December 31, 2020
* I stand by the fact that the NBA badly wants to have some resolution to the 2019/2020 season.
They have months to figure that out.
* * * * *
I'm not arguing that our country isn't seriously fucked, and the idiot in the White House along with the party, media and voters who follow him like sheep haven't fucked it up far worse than it should have been. We are fucked and he fucked it up bad. |

Olympics officially moved to 2021.
So assuming next season starts at Christmas and ends in June, maybe the beginning of a truncated regular season? Or if they go along with the plan to have the Finals in July/August. That would mean perhaps no "Dream Team" at the Olympics next year. |

So I think the season is over. Have from the start.
But say they just wanted to finish the season. Crown a champion & be done with it.
Until there is a vaccine, there will be no crowds, so it would just be a TV event.
Would they put it in a Reb state like the Dakota's? Someplace with a respectable court. So some place with a school that is shut down. It would have to be a place with maybe two major hotels.
Why not the MGM Grand in LV? It's huge & shut down. Many floor to put the players & TV people. Has a major arena built in the casino. People would be crowded together....good fool...brought to your room.
Based on the standings we had before it started.....we take 8 teams …. or 16? Everyone else...the season's over. Give everyone two weeks notice to train. It's fair, because the conditions are the same for everyone. So you have series of 3 games. You just run them thru, and send the losers home. If it's 8 team, it's 3 series. If 16...then 4. The finals are best of 5...or whatever they decide. Winner is NBA Champion.
Looks like next season is pushed back....so there is no hurry on picking a date.
With no travel, they could play with no days off, unless TV timing gives them time off. Half the players would be there 3 or 4 days.
Every player would get tested before it starts. Fail...your out. No Tv people used over the age of 40.....or 35. The conditions would be the same for every team. No fans in the building. The place is so big, everyone's room would be floors apart. No player is forced to be part of it.
When not playing the game...everyone is masked. Dick Beyer would love it.
Put the games on ESPN, ABC, FOX, TBS,, and the NBA channel. For a lot of weeks there would be tons of NBA games on TV.
Wonder how long it would take to run thru 4 rounds of games? Or three?
Maybe this is immoral & it shouldn't be done with everyone suffering at home....I don't know...I'm just thinking.
This would seem to be as safe as leaving your home to go out to shop for food?
If they don't do something like this....season over.
Just don't put it in a nursing home or a prison. Be smart & get permission. --- Yohe |

We’re finally gonna get our own asterisk title, Yohe!
The underdogs will have no chance without fans.

As said in one of the earlier posts, I would like to see them go straight to the Playoffs and wouldn't be surprised of that's where it ends up. We don't need anymore regular season games or to see the jobbers play.
East
Bucks (1) vs Orlando (8)
Heat (4) vs Pacers (5)
Celtics (3) vs 76ers (6)
Toronto (2) vs Nets (7)
West
Lakers (1) vs Grizzzzz (8)
Jazz (4) vs OKC (5)
Denver (3) vs Rockets (6)
Clippers (2) vs Mavs (7)
Cut the first round down to Best of 5. I'd be okay if the second round were as well, as the Jazz or OKC aren't beating us. You still need to win 3 games, so it's not fluky like a Best-of-3 could be.
Then go Best of 7 for the CF and Finals.
I tossed out this before:
07/04/20 Start of the playoffs
09/06/20 Game 7 of Finals
If you go Best-of-5 in the first two round, you can push it back... or end earlier. If series are played in one neutral site location, you eliminate travel days.
They want the money. |

MGM Grand is a huge place with a arena in the building. Each floor is a block long. Other than going to the games, no body would have to be in contact with anyone. Tv setup could be put in place & not moved for the duration of the event. Only the camera guys, need to be close to the floor. Use young people for everything. Reporters watch on Tv at home. It wouldn't be the whole NBA. Every round cuts the number in half.
They can rest after each round. No travel days. Just play the games.
The rules would be the same for everyone. Whatever bad there is....it's the same for everyone. It's way more equal that the regular playoff.
AND it's something like this or....nothing.
We are staying in doors, but we all know there are times when you have to go out side. A huge casino with state of the art ventilation sounds good.
Have the players vote. If some are pissed about not being in the playoffs....then draw lots for two spots or something.
If I was a player, I'd want a champion.
No more regular season games....that's over. Anyone who didn't stay in shape is a fool & doesn't deserve to be a world champ.
Sounds good. The MGM Grand is down the streets from the airport. The airlines are only 10% filled. It sounds safe & no one is forced into nothing. Someone just needs to get on the phone & get it rolling.--Yohe |

So everyone gets two months of NBA ballgames.
You can start it when you want, because next year will be late starting, no matter what happens.....if it happens.---Yohe |

The MGM Grand has one of the biggest TV screen in it's Sports book. Bigger that a wall. NBA people & reporters & non-playing ballplayer & coaches/scouts can watch games there 20 feet apart.
It's a good idea & easy. -- Yohe |

What they are going to do...is nothing. I think the issue is about money.
If this eats up two season, what do you think happens? Everyone becomes a free agent? What a mess!
So does James retire? Does his career become a "what if"? He was in the middle of a great season, does anyone believe he can do it again? His career could resemble Magic in some ways.
If you were to rate the players who have played for the Lakers.....I would rate James over everyone but Jabbar. I would put him over Kobe....not ever close. Everything James did was to win, Kobe was about shooting three's at the end of games & hitting 35% of them. ---Yohe |
