So WWE and Weinstein Co. subsidiary Genius Products have inked a deal for direct-to-video pictures. The story made the top left of Variety's front page this morning. The only reason I'm bothering to post about this? Big pic of Kurt Angle accompanied the story. :)

Granted, most people in this town have no idea who Angle is, but I still got a kick out of it. As of now, the Variety Web site STILL had an Angle picture up: http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117952040.html?categoryid=13&cs=1

Batista is up now, though he's carrying the World Championship which he hasn't had for several months. At least he's still under WWE contract.

Considering the "quality" of the two theatrical releases from WWE Films, I shudder to think of what a direct to video WWE release will entail. I fear a movie version of "Big Apple Showdown", with no Diva nudity.

A while back someone asked Rock about WWE Films and he dismissed them as a direct-to-video outfit. At the time it seemed like a slam, but I guess Rock knew what he was talking about.

I agree with JDW that movies are a waste of resources, other than giving Jethro-Mac the illusion of being in a different business than wrasslin'. The WWE already had a direct-to-video product. They could have been taping and selling major non-PPV house shows for years.
