I saw 3:10 TO YUMA last Sunday & it opens tomorrow. I love westerns & I was really interested in the movie. It's my favorite type film. This movie is a major disappointment & terrible. Made by someone who doesn't understand how to make a western. Christian Bale played the part trying to be a actor while Russell Crowe spends the whole film stealing every scene by being a movie star. Crowe seemed to take the part so he could ride around on his horse shooting his gun. Bale should have just repeated his Batman role because Crowe was playing Superman. Terrible! Russell had to play both the heel role & the face. Bale is so weak & screwed up, he needs Crowe's help to get to the train & then gets killed by the #2 henchman. He does act out his death like he was Kawada. Crowe feels bad that he's shot, so he then kills everyone in his own gang & jumps in the train to go to a jail he's already broke out of twice.

So this western is going to bomb and everyone going to be crying that westerns are dead. So it will be years before the next one.--Steve Yohe

Best western I've seen in ages. I liked it better than Unforgiven as the dark western. The acting was fantastic, the story was good to very good with only a few minor clunky parts, and the ending was perfect for the characters. It really is one of the few remakes that is better than the original.

RT--81% (7.3 all critics, 6.8 COC)
MetaCritic--74% (8.6 users)

It's getting tremendous reviews and has a shot to be a good box office hit and save the western for future attempts.

So Yohe, were you saying that Crowe was good in the movie? I couldn't figure out if you saying he was stealing every scene in a good or bad way.

I read it to mean "Crowe was being Crowe the Movie Star here rather than actually acting a character."

Which isn't uncommon in a wester - Duke was usually the Duke, Costner was Costner in his Wyatt Earp flick, etc.

Then again, at times you run across a Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday that is really acting rather than just a Star Turn.
